| Antibioticos, belonging to FIDIA FARMACEUTICI S.p.a. , is one of the world's largest producers of penicillin and cephalosporin antibiotics for human and animal use.
The Antibioticos Group was established in 1990 as a result of the union between Antibioticos S.A. and Erba Biochimica S.p.A. (a Farmitalia Carlo Erba company, involved in the production of active ingredients). This multinational group has plants, sales offices and research centers in Europe (Spain and Italy) and the Far East (China).
Over 60% of the sales turnover is generated by the two main business areas, penicillins and cephalosporins. Another 10% of the sales turnover is attributed to production activities that are carried out for third parties and the remaining 30% is comprised of other active ingredients.
Ninety percent of sales are achieved outside the national territory (Italy), and involves a significant presence in the markets of the Middle East and China. The Group employs approximately 1,600 people. There are over 160 research staff positions, with a majority of these positions being held by university graduates and well trained technical personnel located in Leon (Spain), Settimo Torinese and Rodano (Italy).
Fermentation processes using high-yield microbial strains, form the basis for our production activities. From these activities, pharmaceutical intermediates and active ingredients are obtained by chemical synthesis or, more recently, by natural enzymatic processes. The production plants undergo routine inspection by the Food and Drug Administration and by the local health authorities. The opening of the Dongjia plant in China is the first stage in a program of international development, which involves other industrial enterprises in Shanghai (China) and Leon (Spain).
