is the epimer of arbutin,which has been found to have stronger inhibitory action than that of arbutin. Even in very low concentration, -arbutin can inhibit the activity of tyrosinase. Its inhibitory mechanism is different from that of arbutin and its intensity is 10 times as much as that of arbutin. -arbutin appeared in the cosmetics market as a safe and high efficient skin lighting active agent in 2002.
