The liquid solution contains ferric iron (Fe+3) contents of 9.6 to 16.2%. However, a typical commercial ferric chloride solution contains approximately 13.8% Fe with a 38-42% solution strength. Usage: Ferric Chloride is used in many different municipal and industrial water treatment applications. This traditional iron salt is applied in multiple wastewater treatment operations, such as phosphorus removal, hydrogen sulfide control, sludge thickening, conditioning and dewatering agent, and chemically enhanced clarification. Ferric chloride is also utilized as a primary coagulant in drinking water treatment.
