Character: White crystalline powder. with a slight odor. Bitter and saline taste. pH (saturated aqueous solution) about 6.5. Mp159-161℃. Insoluble in water, acetic acid: 0.1 M, clear, faintly yellow.
Usage: Used as an antibacterial in the treatment of rosacea. Antiprotozoal (trichomonas). A potential human carcinogen.
For most anaerobic bacteria with strong antibacterial effect. For the treatment of amoebiasis, trichomoniasis and anaerobic infections. The product in 1959 for the treatment of vaginal trichomoniasis, 1970 for the intestine, outside amoebiasis, its high efficacy, low toxicity, wide application. Animal experiments have mutagenic and teratogenic effects.
