Detailed Description:
Cas No. :9004-30-2
CMHEC is a cellulose polymer that contains anionic carboxymethyl and nonionic hydroxyethyl groups added by ether linkages to the OHs on the cellulose backbone. This polymer has more use in brines and completion fluids. Gels containing crosslinked CMHEC are used extensively as oil well fracturing fluids.
CMHEC is water-soluble and has a carboxymethyl degree of substitution of about 0.1 to about 0.25, preferably of about 0.15 to about 0.20, and having a hydroxyethyl molar substitution of greater than about 1.0 possesses unexpected qualities. When this composition is crosslinked with a suitable aluminum ion in an aqueous solution it forms a gel which exhibits no significant thinning at temperatures less than about 200°F. It’s commonly used at temperatures up to 300°F for fluid-loss control and may be used at temperatures up to approximately 350°F, depending on degree of substitution, the co-additives used, and slurry viscosity limitations. CMHEC is more thermally stable than HEC, and is not as susceptible to oxidative attack.
