On Wednesday, May 14, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) said that as the United States imported more oil, U.S. crude oil inventories rose last week, while gasoline and distillate inventories fell. In the week ended May 9, U.S. crude oil inventories increased by 3.5 million barrels to 441.8 million barrels, after previously expected a decrease of 1.1 million barrels. U.S. gasoline inventories fell by 1 million barrels to 224.71 million barrels that week, compared with the market's previous expectation of a decrease of 560,000 barrels.
