Product CardMontmorillonite (Diosmectite; Smectite; Dioctahedral smectite; Bentonite )is a very soft phyllosilicate group of minerals that typically form in microscopic crystals, forming a clay. It was recorded in A Supplement to Materia Medica of Tang Dynasty It is named Montmorillon in France in 19th century.

As high-performance mucosal protective material, montmorillonite was registered and sold in French in 1975. Montmorillonite has been listed in guidebook of national new drug preparation product development in China and it also has been listed in USP, BP and EP

Pharmacological ActionBecause of the special crystal structure, montmorillonite has the outstanding adsoption ability, cation interchange ability and imbibition ability. Montmorillonite can adsorb and fix bacteriotoxin, bacillus coli, comma bacillus, campylobacter jejuni, staphylococcus aureus, duovirus and cholate. Montmorillonite can only adsorb pathogenicbacteria with encoding protein(CS31A) on the surface. It has no scavening action of normal flora without encoding protein(CS31A) on the surface.

Main Efficacy1. Preferential AdsorptionBecause of laminated structure and heterogeneity charge distribution, montomorillonite can absorb,fix and inhibit the virus and bacteria of alimentary canal. Montmorillonite can only adsorb pathogenicbacteria with encoding protein(CS31A) on the surface, useful nutrient substance can’t be absorbed.
