Resveratrol’s formal chemical name is (E)-5-(4-hydroxystyryl)benzene-1,3-diol. Its other names are Trans-3,5,4′-trihydroxystilbene; 3,4′,5-stilbenetriol; trans-resveratrol and (E)-5-(p-hydroxystyryl)resorcinol.
Resveratrol exists mainly in the form of four: CIS Resveratrol, trans-resveratrol,
CIS resveratrol glucoside and trans-resveratrol glucoside. The later form in the intestinal tract in action you can release a Resveratrol, TRANS-isomers of physiological activity than CIS-isomer, nature has mainly TRANS exists. General resveratrol contain 5%-10% of the CIS Resveratrol, trans-resveratrol is bio-active and has clear free radicals ability than CIS resveratrol.
