Quantity: 50000Kilograms Beta-carotene 10% Chemical Names: Betacarotene, provitamin A CAS No. 7235-40-7 Molecular Formula: C40H56 Molecular Weight: 536.9g/mol EINECS No. 230-636-6 Vitamin A activity: 1mg all-trans-beta-carotene=0.167mg retinal equivalent (RE) 6mg all-trans-beta-carotene=1mg retinal equivalent (RE) Description: Free-flowing dark red powder with a slight characteristic odour, in which white particles of starch may be visible. The powder consists of spherical particles, with a uniform particle size. Composition: The powder particles consist of beta-carotene embedded in a matrix of gelatin and sucrose coated with starch. They contain tocopherol (E306), sodium ascorbate (E301) and ascorbyl palmitate (E304) as antioxidant. Solubility: Dispersible in warm water (35-40°C), in which it forms a stable red dispersion. Specification: Assay: min. 10% Loss on drying: =5% (4 hours at 105°C) Monographs: The included vitamin complies with the current Ph., Eur., USP monographs. Particle-size distribution: 100 % smaller than 425µm (40mesh USP) min. 90% smaller than 250µm (60mesh USP) max. 12% smaller than 150µm (100mesh USP) Bulk density: Approx. 0.6g/ml Stabilization/Stability: The product is stabilized with tocopherol (E306), sodium ascorbate (E301) and ascorbvl palmitate (E304). The stability of beta-carotene 10% is very good even in the presence of minerals. The product is exceptionally resistant to pressure and very little betacarotene is expressed during tabletting. So that it exhibits good stability in tablets. The product is table for at least 24 months when it is stored in the original containers at room temperature (about 25oC) Applications: Pharmaceutical preparations: In recent years, beta-carotene dry powders have increasingly been replacing vitamin A dry powders in solid multivitamin preparations, as in contrast to vitamin A, there are no statutory limits for the use of betacarotene as provitamin A. Beta-carotene 10% is used as provitamin A and as an active ingredient in its own right. It can be recommended particularly for use in multivitamin/mineral tablets and beta-carotene tablets, and also, because of its excellent flow properties, for the manufacture of hard gelatin capsules. Food products: Because of its composition.Beta-carotene 10% is highly suitable for the manufacture of food supplement preparations, e.g. plain tablets, effervescent tablets and sugarcoated tablets.
